The RatPlug by Omniplug Technologies

Other Middleware

Product Description

The storage, display and image capture technology inside modern portable devices is way ahead of the mobile networks’ ability to deliver that content.

Today, users have to make time to upload and download their content using a computer. The RatPlug is a universal charger that eliminates this time and hassle by automatically uploading and downloading files over the fixed network while charging the battery.

The RatPlug uses 5% of the power of a home PC doing the same job and the fixed network costs 3% of the cellular equivalent quoted by a recent Nokia Siemens study. We offer an efficient way of getting your customers what they want.

The RatPlug automatically searches the device’s memory card for new photos and copies them to a private album in the user’s Facebook account. It also downloads albums from their Facebook newsfeed directly onto their device.

It also downloads audio, video and gaming content onto a device so a user can get regularly browse through new stuff without waiting for each file to load over a congested network.

Most portable devices support USB mass storage and many also support USB charging. The RatPlug uses USB to charge the device while at the same time uploading and downloading data to and from the device’s memory card. It makes use of the charging downtime to load the largest files including pictures (to and from Facebook), podcasts and videos (from RSS feeds).

The result is that we can connect 80% of PAYG mobiles, all contract mobiles (except the iPhone which does not support mass storage), the Sony PSP and many other audio, video and gaming devices, and a number of mid range and high end digital photo frames.

The RatPlug connects to the home broadband network using wifi or ethernet and acts as the internet endpoint, instigating the patent pending process and system that makes sure everything gets delivered where it is needed, in the right format for the device or service.

We are offering to help you introduce and then license our system and method patent WO/2009/130484. Using it, you will be able to cost-effectively deliver predictively updated content that is personalised and mashed together for each user and formatted for each of their devices without incurring the cost of maintaining the servers to bring it all together.

The patent deals with how we use intelligence at the edge of the network to automatically manage the upload and download and cost of content. We use a control server to give connection and device capability data to the RatPlug which then uploads and downloads directly with the content server, adapting content to suit the device or destination service.
