QorIQ Processors Built on Layerscape Architecture by Freescale

Freescale has developed a revolutionary new networking system architecture for QorIQ platforms. Next-generation QorIQ processors are built on our new modular, software-aware Layerscape architecture which delivers unprecedented efficiency and scale for the smarter, more capable networks of tomorrow—end to end. Layerscape architecture is core agnostic and maximizes performance and power efficiency for all classes of applications across all nodes of the network. We currently have two QorIQ families built on Layerscape architecture:
- QorIQ LS-1 devices incorporate dual ARM® Cortex™-A7 cores running up to 1.2 GHz each, and are purpose-built to deliver a highly optimized blend of performance and features for power-constrained networking applications. At less than 3W total power, LS-1 products deliver over 6,000 DMIPS of dual-core performance, virtualization support, advanced security features and the broadest array of high-speed interconnects ever offered in a sub-3W processor.
- QorIQ LS-2 devices have been designed to be both powerful and highly integrated in order to reduce BOM costs for the most demanding fan-less applications. Featuring powerful dual ARM® Cortex™-A15 cores running up to 1.5 GHz each and less than 5W total power, the LS-2 family of products deliver CoreMark® performance of over 10,000, as well as support for virtualization, advanced security features and the latest high-speed interconnects.
