Meet Preethi: ARM Graduate Engineer

Degree: PhD in Computer Science

University: University of Manchester

I graduated from the University of Manchester with a PhD in Computer Science. I had applied to ARM well before finishing my degree and I was happy to get through the rigorous interview process, which consisted of an interview with a member of the Human Resources team and two rounds of Technical interview. My PhD work concentrated on multiprocessor architectures and I was interested in pursuing a career in processor architecture design which is ARM's core competence.

I have been working at ARM as a Graduate Engineer for the past 8 months. As a Graduate Engineer in ARM, typically one has to go through 3-4 rotations in the first year of joining. These rotations give the individual sufficient exposure to the various aspects of processor design, such as design, verification and prototyping.

Having come out of university with little practical exposure to the real world design work, it was quite intimidating at first, but with the support of my seniors and peers and on the job training courses, I managed to pull through these projects. The work atmosphere at ARM is fairly informal and one can always be assured of all help and support from your peers on the project that you are working on. Newcomers at ARM are given feedback on their work at regular intervals during the calendar year to help the candidate improve their performance and progress on the career ladder. The Human Resources team does a great job of the various induction events that newcomers attend to get familiarised with the work policies and benefits associated with the job as well as networking with other employees within the company.

Apart from work, there are social events such as Christmas Party, Summer BBQ and various social/musical/sports networking groups that one can join in. All in all ARM is a great place to be in!
